In Argentina (Día del Periodista Deportivo), the commemoration of sports journalism occurs on a different day than the rest of the world. For more than 60 years, the Day of the Sports Journalist has been celebrated in Argentina every November 7, which generates some suspicion because the International Day of the Sports Journalist is celebrated on June 2.
The celebration of the International Day of the Sports Journalist occurs because on that date the International Sports Press Association was created, which was founded for the 1924 Olympic Games, although in Argentina it is celebrated every November 7. Very few know why the choice of this date by Argentines is due and why it differs from the rest of the world, and it is that the choice of this day overlaps with the Day of the Canillita, the newspaper and magazine distributor.
This commemoration influenced the celebration of the day of the sports journalist. It was the Circle of Sports Journalists of the Federal Capital who decided to award the date on which newspaper vendors are commemorated as a reference and the measure was gaining supporters year after year. Thus, Argentine sports journalism celebrates its day together with the union of newspaper and magazine delivery men.
