The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year on 9 August, in commemoration of Singapore's independence from Malaysia in 1965. This holiday features a National Day Parade, an address by the Prime Minister of Singapore and fireworks celebrations.
The inaugural National Day Parade was held in front of City Hall in 1966 a year after Singapore's separation from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.
Singapore pioneered the first F1 night race. Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometers. The United States is about 15,000 times bigger. The red of Singapore's flag represents universal brotherhood and equality of man while the white symbolizes purity and virtue.
