Carl Sagan Day is an annual celebration of the birth anniversary of astronomer and science popularizer Carl Sagan (November 9, 1934), and is intended to increase public interest in astronomy and scientific research. Carl Sagan Day was introduced in 2009 by the Fort Lauderdale chapter of the Center for Inquiry, in the United States, and a coalition of organizations promoting science and secular humanism. From there it has spread in the following years, especially among sympathizers of rationalism and skepticism. The initiative is now also supported by the James Randi Educational Foundation.
