The Salteña is a type of Bolivian empanada, juicy and stuffed with meat, chicken or other meats, hard-boiled egg, spices and other ingredients, baked in the oven, typical in the Bolivian popular gastronomy.
Historical data indicate that it was born in Potosí, in colonial times and, precisely today, when this department celebrates the anniversary of its liberation deed, the Salteña is also celebrating. November 10 has been designated as the National Day of the Bolivian Salteña, as an initiative to highlight and value this purely Bolivian pie, icon and exponent of traditional cuisine.
The food was declared intangible heritage by the municipality of Potosi since October 11, 2012.
