Are Swedes and Finns the Same Ethnicity? As the Finns are considered to be part of the Baltic Finnic ethnic group they are not considered Scandinavian (as Sweden is). There is, however, a sub-group of some 450 000 Sweden-Finns whose heritage and ethnicity would be the same as the Swedes in Sweden.
Swedish, along with Finnish, is an official language of Finland. The Finnish Swedish Heritage Day is celebrated on November 6. The day was established in 1908 and there is a special flag to recognize Swedish-speaking Finns. It is also Gustavus Adolphus Day in Sweden. The king was killed at the Battle of Lutzen on November 6, 1632.
