The Zambezi is the fourth longest river in Africa after the Nile, Congo, and Niger Rivers. Zambia was colonized by the British under independence in 1964, the official language spoken in Zambia is English, and one of the things that they left behind was their love of afternoon tea. The majority of Zambians hail from the Bantu speaking ethnic groups which include the Nyanja, Bemba, Chewa, Tonga, Lunda, Nkoya, Lozi, Kaonde and Tumbuka. Zambians belong to one or several of approximately 73 tribes, all of which have unique traditional ceremonies. These ceremonies celebrate harvests or reenact parts of a tribe’s history. They are held throughout the year and are free for any Zambian to attend regardless of tribe. Most of the ceremonies have a deep meaning, in many cases designed to invoke memories of the transformation from childhood to adulthood. Blessed with awe-inspiring natural wonders, an abundance of wildlife, huge water bodies and vast open spaces, Zambia offers unforgettable holidays exploring the real Africa. Spectacular daily sunsets are almost guaranteed. You can go white water rafting down the Zambezi, canoe through national parks for a closer look at the wildlife, take a chopper flight over Victoria Falls or swing off one of the massive gorges. Zambia is big, it’s bold and full of incredible wildlife. One third of the country is made up of national parks.
