Meteorologist's Day (Dia do Meteorologista) has been celebrated on October 14 since 2004, but until recently the date was March 3. This date celebrates the professional responsible for keeping an eye on all the climatic variations on Earth.
The change came from a decision by the Brazilian Society of Meteorology - SBMET, which, in 2004, during a General Assembly, defined that the Meteorologist Day should be celebrated on the date the profession was regulated in the country: October 14, 1980, through Law 6.835.
The change was definitely approved in September 2008, during the 1353rd Ordinary Plenary Session of the Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy - CONFEA.
The World Meteorology Day is celebrated on March 23. The date arose in 1961, because of the celebration of the creation of the World Meteorological Organization - WMO, an institution that is linked to the UN (United Nations) and has existed since 1950.
