The professional aquaculture engineer is responsible for the study, development, and improvement of techniques for the efficient exploration of aquatic food, such as fish, mollusks, and crustaceans, among others.
July 14th was chosen as Aquaculture Engineer Day (Dia do Engenheiro de Aquicultura), because it was when the Aquaculture Engineering course was officially recognized and authorized by the MEC, and on this date in 2006 it was officially published in the Diário Oficial da União.
Brazil is the country with the largest freshwater reserve in the world, and also has an extensive coastal region, making it one of the countries with the greatest potential for food production from water. This makes the aquaculture engineer a very relevant role, being able to help in the development and improvement of production processes.
